Hello - I am John Fernandes - innkeeper at the SecretGardenIguazu B&B and I have created this space for my guests to share their thoughts and experiences in Iguazu. This I am certain will give new visitors an instrument to fine tune their stay here. The photo shows me with my puppy Roxy who keeps me happy when my spirits flag.
Enjoy!
Hi John,
We stayed with you in january 2006 and still now we have good remembrances to you, Maria and your dog Gina. Has Gina died? On the photographs we do see anaother dog, named Roxy? Edith likes her. We just wanted to know if your B&B is still there, so we went on the internet. We love to come back once to see the falls again. Probably we will stay again with you. May be you will remember us? The organised hairdresser and the weatherman from the KNMI? Hopefully everything is okay with you and Maria. I went to my brother in Mumbai, so I did visit crazy India. Edith went pregnant in southern Argentina (so I did a good job ;-)and now we have a lovely boy, named Arne. By mail I will send a photograph of Edith and Arne.

The Secret Garden is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are comfortable, very clean and set within a beautiful tropical garden. The Inn is located a 5 minute walk away from the main centre of Puerto Iguazu and a 2 minute walk to the end of the road to get the public bus to the Argentinian side of the Iguazu Falls, Foz do Iguacu (Brazil) and Ciudad del Este (Paraguay).
The proprietor of the Secret Garden is John Fernandes, an incredible chap who makes you feel welcome and is extremely interesting to talk to. Every night John hosts a 'Sundowner' with scrumptious caipirinhas and bruschettas, a fitting end to each day after seeing the beautiful Iguazu Falls. Its also a pleasant way to meet other people and pick up good tips on seeing the falls.
John will also sort out any transport that you need and has some very good recommendations of local places to eat and drink. He arranged for us and another couple to visit the Brazilian side of the falls, a brilliant wildlife park and Ciudad del Este!
There is no better way to stay and see the falls!!

We stayed at the Secret Garden this past March and were so happy we did! John and his staff were amazing! Jaime, our driver was very friendly and prompt.
The room was immaculate and very comfortable; my best sleep during our 2 weeks in Argentina! Breakfast was lovely. I think John should export his homemade jams! Yes, they're that good. Drinks and bruschetta in the evening were a wonderful way to transition the day and prepare us for dinner.
We only stayed 2 nights, but I highly recommend our favorite restaurant, La Hacienda. It was in a rustic cabin-like setting. And we had a blast there! Food was good, atmosphere and music wonderful. We went to Agva the 2nd night. It was very nice, but felt we could have been anywhere in the world.
John, thank you so much for our lovely stay! We would love to come back and stay more than 2 nights. For us, 2 days and nights were not long enough!

I stayed with John for 3 nights in February. I was a little apprehensive, but found this place lived up to all the comments--in fact surpassed it. John is a wonderful host and makes anyone feel like an old and trusted friend. I cannot recommend this place too highloy.

The Secret Garden Iguazu is one of those little precious gem worth discovering.
John, the host and innkeeper, was very helpful in finding us a driver to go see the falls, suggested us great places to eat as well as helped us find another place to stay as his B&B was already booked for 2 of the 3 days we were in Iguazu.
The quaint rooms are set in the courtyard filled with tropical plants and visited by a myriad of hummingbirds. A little wooden boardwalk connects the rooms through the lush courtyard to the veranda, where the Caipirinha is served for all the guest at 19:00.
One thing worth noting is that John and his summer helper, Anna, will plant a tree for each guests staying at Secret Garden Iguazu.
Roxy, John's dog, was following Anna in her every moves, and was a friendly addition to the already welcoming setting.
I would definitely recommend anyone wanting to have a great experience in Iguazu to stay at the Secret Garden.

Thank you, John, for a wonderful stay at the Secret Garden. We visited in late January/early February and were lucky enough to get to stay two nights. Juan Pablo Gonzalez was our driver, arranged by our host, and he was wonderful! Prompt, pleasant and a great driver. We had a fantastic time at the falls, and very pleasant evenings at the B&B. John also arranged for us to visit a wonderful ranch. We had a tour of the botanical garden, drinks overlooking the river and a fantastic dinner.
I hope we can visit again someday!

Dear John,
I had blogged to you last week in hopes of getting a room at your lovely place in April (17-19)for 3 and have not heard back from you, so am wondering if it got lost in cyberspace. If nothing is available then,do you have something for 2 the 13-15 of April??That latter date would be minus our college-aged daughter.
Thanks!
Marcie

Hola John,
We are now back home and still talking about our trip to Iguazu and the falls. Best of all was that we found your little Secret Garden - it was like coming home. Thanks for your hospitality and hosting the evenings receptions, it could not have been better! It was so nice to get together with your other guests to share impressions and tales of the day. Had we known then what we know now we would have stayed another day.
All the best to you, Maria and your whole staff and we are looking to come back to see you again.

Hi John
I'd just like to say a very big thank you for looking after me whilst I visited the Iguazu Falls. From my very last minute request for accommodation to ensuring I had transport to the airport, your hospitality was truly amazing. Thank you for more or less organsing my trip to the amazing falls (both sides) and suggesting the Bemberg. Had I known of these little gems, including yours, I would have stayed longer - definitely worth a second visit in the near future.
Best wishes to you and all you staff (inc. Roxy), I'll get that recipe to you soon!!

Hi John -
Do you have 1 room available for two nights (Nov 22 and 23) for myself and my wife?
Thanks
Pat

Hello John,
We are thinking of coming to Iguazu from December 29th, 2009 until January 3, 2010. We are only two, my husband and myself. Do you have availability and if so, what is the cost? Also, do you arrange airport pick up or is it best to rent a car?
Thank you!
Coleen

I am not quite sure why there are no comments on here since 2007. I am very happy to correct that!! The Secret Garden is the perfect way to enjoy Iguazu in my opinion. If you are a little tired of large impersonal hotels it is the perfect antidote. John or a driver arranged by John will meet you at the airport. From that moment on John can either organise/facilitate everything or leave you to your own devices as you prefer. We used one of his drivers for two days and it helped make our short two night stay relaxed and completely hassle free; we were driven over to Brazil and twice to the Argentine park and met at the designated times.
The evening cocktails and bruschetta were a delight and John is lovely company. He is also the type of person who will join in or not join in as he sees fit.
The rooms are extremely well looked after, clean and comfortable. In addition the wifi works well although not in the bedrooms.
All in all a 10 out of 10 stay.
